Welcome to Kinston, a small town in northern Michigan just an hour southeast of the Mackinac Bridge. On a sweltering August afternoon in 2001, Sarah Fairweather crashes her father’s classic Corvette through the windows of the Trainstop, the town’s only restaurant, owned and operated by her grandmother, Lily Patria. Sarah kills her husband and an innocent woman eating ice cream. Against the backdrop of Kinston with its rural inhabitants, worries, and power struggles, three generations of Patria women strive to cope with Sarah’s actions and the compelling demands of family, in-laws, and community, the pressures of love, and their contradictory definitions of happiness, as they ultimately decide whether to rebuild the restaurant that binds them or close it forever.

I started reading the story and kept losing interest, but being stubborn, I wanted to see what the ending would be like. I wanted to know what happened to the characters. I felt like I was reading a day to day story of several characters without knowing where the story was really leading up to for any of them. I kept waiting for the climax of the story and that started to happen near the end, but then it just tapered off and ended without any real conclusion. I wouldn't say it was a cliffhanger because it didn't seem to be leading into a new story at all. It was more of just a "ok, this person is dead and life will go on for the rest of us and we don't know what will happen tomorrow so we can't write about tomorrow" ending.Product details

The Trainstop Ms Alissia JR Lingaur 9781494283858 Books Reviews
Well written story, but not my typical genre so I found it a little slow, too much small detail narrative maybe.
I didn't think I would like this book at first but it pulled me in. It's different and that's a good thing! The more I read the more I couldn't put it down. Didn't especially like part of the ending but it was the only way that made any sense so I can live with that. Worth the time.
My husband and I both read this book and we both loved it! The characters were well rounded and likable. They face a lot of heartache and struggles because of one family members actions. I would highly recommend this book !
The Trainstop was a good read, but I was a bit disappointed when I did not get much of the story leading up to the event that started the story. The murder of the main character by one of her dead husband's mistress presented an unsatisfactory anticlimax to the story. I was happy though that the towns people came to their senses to begin working together again.
It was ok. I skipped thru a lot of the book. Sometimes I had a hard time keeping up with who was who. It did show how one persons bad descision creates a mess for many other people. Lets talk about the ending...oh wait what ending!? I cant be the only one who felt like the book didn't "end"?? Oh well maybe this book just wasn't for me. I love to read and can finish a great book in a day or two I think this one took me over a week.
This book held great promise. The story is about two families who were property owners in a small town. Their families and stories intertwined. One of them decided to drive her dad's Corvette into the restaurant and in doing so killed her husband.
There are some good parts to the story but the rambling was not worth the way it ended. Some characters were well written. No spoilers but not the best book.
This book was one of those frustrating reads that are on the edge of being wonderful, but fail. All the book really needed was a strong editor - someone to help the author see where she was slipping in her character development, or wandering away from the plot. Unfortunately, the lack of such editing was enough to ruin the overall experience.
